Project Overview
Project Overview
Wounded Waves is an interactive installation that explores the fragile relationship between humans and the ocean. Covering two-thirds of our planet, the ocean sustains countless forms of life, yet human interference through pollution continues to scar it. The installation transforms this unseen damage into a sensory experience, allowing participants to witness how collective human actions disturb marine ecosystems.

The objective was to understand the existing scenario of enrollment in daycare centers and the challenges faced by parents while finding a reliable facility. The in-depth user interviews gave me quality insights from working parents living in urban and semi-urban areas.

Interaction and Journey
Interaction and Journey
Visitors step into a field of suspended blue ribbons that sway like waves, accompanied by calming ocean sounds. As they walk through, they brush against objects hidden among the ribbons plastic waste. Each time a visitor touches one, the corresponding ribbon shifts from blue to red, symbolizing harm to the ocean

Generating code
Generating code
I explored coding as a tool for linking physical materials with digital responses. Using AI-assisted (Gemini, ChatGPT) code generation, I was able to quickly prototype the logic for sensors, LEDs, and sound. This process not only provided the base Arduino code but also helped me understand the wiring setup and component connections.

Feedback and takeways
Feedback and takeways
These are some of the feedback of people who participated in the experience. They described their feelings of from feelings of calm to surprise when the waves turned red.

Design takeways
These feedback shaped my design takeaways, the value of multi-sensory storytelling, the power of collective interaction, and the importance of designing for emotional resonance in participatory installations.
